LASER SKIN REJUVENATION, LASER SKIN REJUVENATION

For many years, people have resorted to various surgical treatment methods in order to look younger and reduce the visible effects of aging. Face lift operations are the most common examples of these. After all, facelift operation is a serious operation and it means anesthesia, cutting of tissues, suturing, long healing process, risk of infection. Asymmetry, unnatural appearance are other possible complications.

As a result of the fact that many candidates for skin rejuvenation do not prefer surgical interventions due to the reasons mentioned above, non-surgical laser skin rejuvenation and laser skin rejuvenation techniques have been developed and their popularity has increased in recent years.

Tightening the skin, removing wrinkles and recovering sagging skin with the effect of gravity without the risks of surgery is possible with laser skin rejuvenation technologies, which can make tremendous changes in various tissues.

All laser devices used in laser skin rejuvenation and skin rejuvenation send high-energy rays to the skin. These laser beams are held by water molecules in the structure of the skin or by substances called chromophores that contain color. As a result of the absorption of light energy by water and chromophores, the energy turns into heat and destroys the exposed area of the skin in layers in a controlled manner. Some lasers also provide skin rejuvenation by heating the skin tissues without destroying them.

As a result of laser skin rejuvenation, a significant improvement is achieved in skin structure and appearance. The skin gets a younger, healthier, more attractive and clear look, free from stains and scars. With laser skin resurfacing, the elasticity of the skin increases and wrinkles are significantly reduced.

LASERS USED FOR SKIN REJUVENATION AND SKIN REJUVENATION

Ablative Skin Rejuvenation Lasers (Laser Skin Peeling)

They act by peeling the top layer of the skin in a controlled manner at an appropriate depth. With this skin resurfacing technique, the superficial layers of the skin are heated. At the same time, the water in the tissue evaporates and the upper layers of the skin are destroyed, which causes a worn and aged appearance. As a result, fibroblast activity increases, new collagen and matrix proteins are formed, and a completely new skin matrix emerges.

After laser resurfacing with ablative applications, the appearance of wounds and burns on the skin persists for about 1 week. During this period, it is recommended to rest at home for 1 week, as the skin must be protected very well. Wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, aging effects around the mouth and eyes are successfully treated with laser resurfacing method.

Two types of lasers are commonly used in laser skin rejuvenation using the ablative method.

1. CO2 (Carbon dioxide lasers):

The wavelength they produce is 10,600 nm. The beam is emitted with the aid of carbon dioxide gas. The laser beams, which are absorbed by the water molecules in the tissues, cause the water to heat up to 100 ºC. It penetrates from the skin surface to a depth of 30 µm-100 µm.

2. Er:Yag Lasers

They produce a laser beam with a wavelength of 2940 nm. The thermal (heat-related) damage they leave on the skin is less than CO2 lasers. It is absorbed more efficiently by tissues containing water. Since the epidermis consists of a high amount of water, Er Yag lasers provide a more superficial skin peeling process. There are also devices that combine these two skin resurfacing systems.

Non-Ablative Skin Rejuvenation Lasers

Non-Ablative (non-ablative) lasers have lower energy levels and do not cause any damage to the skin surface. They do the thermal damage in the dermal layers and the epidermis is protected. In the skin rejuvenation method with nonablative laser, the epidermis is not destroyed, the subcutaneous tissue is stimulated and restructured as a result.

With this skin rejuvenation technique, wrinkles and the effects of aging caused by the sun, pigmentation problems, enlarged vascular lesions are successfully removed without creating any scar on the skin, and the skin tone is improved.

After the laser skin rejuvenation process using non-ablative laser technology, there is no recovery process as in CO2 and Er:Yag lasers and it is possible to return to normal life immediately. On the other hand, the results are not as successful as the laser skin resurfacing procedure, which is applied by peeling the upper layer of the skin.

It is a very suitable method for individuals who do not want their daily life to be affected due to cosmetic applications and who need to return to work immediately. Non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation method, besides the face, neck, chest, arms, hands

It can also be applied on legs and feet.

Types of Lasers Used in Non-Ablative Laser Skin Rejuvenation

1. Fractional Lasers

It is the way laser beams are divided into pixelized mini beams. It penetrates into tissues in small microcolumns. Pixels and fractions (in zones) act on the skin. While the tissues in the areas exposed to laser beams are destroyed, healthy areas remain in between.

Therefore, as a result of the laser skin rejuvenation process applied with fractional technology, recovery is much faster. The new collagen formation that occurs in the areas called micro-treatment areas where micro-rays hit, ensures the regeneration of the skin.

There are devices that produce rays of different wavelengths that work with fractional laser skin rejuvenation technology. It is effective in removing wrinkles, acne scars treatment, reducing pigmented lesions, treating melasma and skin rejuvenation.

2. Plasma

It provides skin rejuvenation by destroying the lower layers of the skin with plasma energy. During the destruction of the lower layers, the upper layer is not damaged, so the healing period is very short.

3. Superficial Er:Yag

It is a non-aggressive laser skin rejuvenation treatment method. It is effective in the treatment of smaller wrinkles and especially in the regeneration of the skin that has been damaged by the sun effect.

4- Infrared Lasers

In particular, they produce invisible light at 1064 nm, 1320 nm and 1450 nm. This light is also absorbed by water molecules and the dermis and epidermis are simultaneously heated. Aggressive cooling is applied to the skin to prevent thermal damage to the epidermis, the upper layer of the skin.

Infrared lasers provide skin rejuvenation by restructuring and compressing collagen. Skin resurfacing with infrared lasers, which is widely used in the treatment of wrinkles and acne, is painful due to the high penetration of the rays into the tissue.

How to Start Laser Skin Rejuvenation, Laser Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Although the main principles are similar, there are a wide variety of laser skin rejuvenation devices with different features in detail. The correct use of these devices is a real specialty. Skin structure and skin lesions should be recognized very well.

Laser skin rejuvenation treatment should be planned individually because each individual's skin structure and needs are different. Pulse duration, energy intensity to be given, number of treatment repetitions, number of sessions and intervals are planned separately for each patient.
